At the top of each topic or page, there is a mini-guide called coloring notes. Think of this as an instructional list explaining in what order to assemble the pyramid of learning as efficiently as possible. This column explains in what order to color the structures and what type of color to use for each. Once again, just like the sequence of topics have a logic, the order of coloring of diagrams in each topic has a similar logic. The ultimate aim of both is to facilitate learning and understanding by building it from the ground up.
Facts are stored better if they come in more than one way so coloring benefits both visual and kinesthetic learners by automatically providing a second door for information to enter. While the advantages outlined above are extremely important, the following one should not be overlooked. Coloring is easy and fun. Anatomy, although interesting, can become dull and boring if you only use one method of learning every single time and you constantly repeat it. Coloring partially eliminates the mind numbing text, essays and explanations required to describe and understand anatomical structures.
Theresa Citerella, a student of art therapy at the Lesley University, was quoted saying that a lot of her classmates use coloring books in class to focus on their lessons. Similarly, Theresa also states that fidgety clients attending therapy sessions tend to ask for coloring books to concentrate and participate in group discussions. To achieve these positive results, people have started using coloring apps, such as the Mandala Coloring, on their smartphones and tablets. Coloring apps help you engage in this creative activity on the go.
More specifically, they do this by increasing the brain’s level of attention, or stated differently, colors attract attention. In turn, the more attention is focused on a stimuli, the higher is the chance to be transferred to memory. Also, colors enhance memory through mental arousal, which was shown to be essential in keeping information in the memory system.
He has been making art projects since he was little, starting with finger painting process art, to now, beautiful watercolor paintings. We took him to a local art show this year and he was in awe! He kept walking around pointing to paintings and pictures that he thought were “cool” or liked their bright colors. It’s never too early to begin exposing your child to the arts, and works of art. That’s why we are so passionate about arts education for children and we were so inspired to create our “My First Masterpieces” coloring book, full of beautiful adapted famous works of art specially designed and perfect for little hands to color.
They turned out great! Now we have our own Matisse like painting we can hang in our house and enjoy. Crayon Kid loved it as well. I showed him The Sheath coloring page later and we talked about our leaf prints as he colored it. I love sharing these experiences with him and making these connections. It’s so important for your child to not only experience art, but to use it as a jumping off point for other skills. Language, social skills, and fine motor skills can all be fostered in creating works of art together.
